It's natural for any woman to want to get back in shape after childbirth. Are you bothered about excess skin on your abdomen? Do sit-ups, crunches, or dieting work well for you? It's okay if these things do not work in your favor. Your plastic surgeon will be able to help you.

Tummy Tuck or, to be precise, abdominoplasty can be a solution. This cosmetic surgical procedure helps to remove excess skin or fat from the abdomen and tightens the muscles.

Why abdominoplasty?

An excess tummy can give you backaches and may affect your confidence level, especially if you are conscious of your appearance. However, it can also result in complications such as hernia and hygiene problems due to skin folds. Various factors require a tummy tuck procedure, such as weakened abdominal muscles due to pregnancy or aging and excess fat deposition around the abdomen due to cases like obesity.

Abdominoplasty is suitable for any healthy man and woman. It helps improve your shape, correct hernias, divarication, improve hygiene, and give your belly button an appealing look.

However, you must not consider abdominoplasty if you:

  • Plan pregnancy in the future,
  • Lose a significant amount of weight,
  • Have a severe chronic health condition.

Based on your goals, there are different types of abdominoplasty, such as Complete or Mini Abdominoplasty. Circumferential or extended abdominoplasty is performed to include the removal of excess fat at the back. Sometimes liposuction (removing fat from the abdomen) is also performed along with abdominoplasty. This procedure is also called lipo-abdominoplasty.

Before you opt for abdominoplasty, you must take necessary preparations such as quitting smoking, maintaining a stable weight, and avoiding bleeding-inducing medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements. You also might have to arrange for someone to stay and assist you on the first night of your surgery.

It is important to take note of the potential complications that result from abdominoplasty. You may experience pain or swelling in the days following the surgery. Surgery will also leave an incision scar. Initially, there might be a change in skin sensation but would return to normal after a few months.

You must take necessary care and maintain hygiene in the days after surgery to heal completely.

Consult your doctor for a detailed medical examination and treatment.
