Overview

The Department of Radiology at Amrita Hospital is one of the finest international centres of its kind. New high performance equipment together with a hospital-wide, all digital imaging, archival and retrieval system establishes Amrita Hospital as an important referral site. This state-of-the-art technology facilitates rapid communication and diagnosis.

Facilities Available

Color Doppler and Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound Studies

Advanced Color Doppler Ultrasound scanners offers studies of the carotids, peripheral vessels, abdominal and renal vessels. These scans of the body’s blood vessels are essential in investigations of patients with blood vessel related problems. The department today offers the latest in ultrasound technology – contrast enhanced ultrasound study for diagnosing liver diseases.

Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT)

We have high-performance Multidetector Computed Tomography systems which enable us to do state of the art CT angiography studies and multifaceted studies to investigate complex diseases of the abdomen and chest.

The 256 Slice Cardiac CT Scanner is the ultimate CT solution for cardiovascular and whole body imaging. It fuses the latest and fastest multislice technology with dedicated clinical applications delivering unprecedented image quality. It offers the highest performance to meet the requirements of cardiac and cardiovascular diagnosis by utilising innovative workflow concepts.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Our 3 Tesla MRI scanner with quantum gradients is among the most advanced equipment in India. This scanner is very fast, requiring only 15 minutes for a routine scan, greatly enhancing patient comfort. Capabilities include diffusion imaging for hyperacute stroke detection, proton spectroscopy for tumour evaluation, MRCP for non–invasive liver, gallbladder and pancreatic imaging, and functional MRI studies for brain mapping and epilepsy localisation. The medical community in Kerala now has access to neuro, orthopaedic and body imaging at an affordable cost.

Digital Subtraction Angiography Lab

This highly sophisticated equipment provides crystal clear images of abdominal, renal, cerebral and peripheral blood vessels for the diagnosis of patients with gastrointestinal as well as peripheral vascular and neurological problems.

Among the many important procedures and treatments possible with the use of this equipment are balloon dilation and stenting to repair and maintain obstructed vessels (angioplasty), embolizations to eliminate bleeding, chemoembolization and radiofrequency ablation for cancer treatment and advanced procedures to assist liver transplantation. The department has also started offering treatments for stroke (carotid stenting) and for brain vascular problems (AVM embolisations and aneurysm coiling).
