
The three-day international summit of clinical nutritionists, ‘ASCEND’, hosted at Amrita, was inaugurated by P. Prasad, Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Kerala. The Minister announced that the state's vegetable production, which currently stands at 17.2 lakh metric tons, is set to increase gradually to 25 lakh metric tons and later to 43 lakh metric tons. He highlighted the paradox of the rising number of lifestyle diseases caused by unhealthy eating habits on one hand, while on the other, an increasing number of people lack access to proper nutrition.
The event was attended by Dr. Prem Nair, Group Medical Director of Amrita Hospitals; Dr. Renuka Jayatissa, Vice Chancellor of the International Institute of Health Sciences; M.V. Thampi, Chief Program Administrator of Amrita Center for Allied Health Sciences; and Dr. Nivedita Pavithran, Head of the Clinical Nutrition Department.
The summit, which commenced on Friday, concludes today. Over three days, leading experts in the health sector conducted various sessions. The international summit was organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the postgraduate program in Clinical Nutrition at Amrita.
During the event, a video showcasing a medical camp conducted for the marginalized community in Marayoor was presented. Additionally, a newsletter and a collection of keto diet recipes were released.
