The Department of Cardiology at Amrita Hospital in Kochi has earned its place as a leading cardiac centre in the state and beyond. Staffed by a dynamic team of 10 cardiologists, 15 resident cardiologists, and a dedicated paramedical staff, this department is a testament to its unwavering commitment to heart health. The department has notched up several milestones on its belt. Performing over 125,000 cardiac procedures, including the first transaortic valve replacement via a minimally invasive approach, it has pioneered many medical innovations. They were forerunners in introducing the heart team concept, a cooperative and integrative approach to patient care. They marked a significant milestone by performing the state’s first percutaneous ventricular septal rupture procedure. Always at the forefront, they kickstarted the first radical intervention program and pioneered the establishment of the state’s first daycare angiogram facility. Their areas of expertise range from treating Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and cardio-oncology to amyloidosis. The private sector has seen no better in terms of coronary interventions, valvuloplasty, peripheral interventions, and cardiac device implantations. Their electrophysiology unit is a hub of excellence, performing intricate procedures and device implementations with precision and care. Moreover, the department is deeply committed to training the next generation of cardiac experts. Its expansive training programs have been taken up by medical professionals from 18 different states in India.
