Jaideep has 23 years of cardiology practise behind him. Alongside clinical work his areas of interest in Cardiology include Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation, andPopulation health sciences.
He is the PI of the > 100000 strong cohort, ENDIRA-“epidemiology of non-communicable diseases in rural areas”. The ENDIRA investigators have studied the prevalence of NCDs including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipdaemia, obesity, cancers, ischaemic heart disease(IHD) and COPD in the cohort; looked at the feasibility of a m-health platform for the follow-up of individuals in the cohort; studied adherence to drugs in > 2000 identified individuals on treatment for IHD in the cohort.
He is also the PI of the “Shraddha-Jagrithi” project, a collaboration between AIMS, Kochi and the district National Health Mission (NHM), wherein the target population of individuals > age of 30 were screened for diabetes, hypertension and dyslidaemiaat household through ASHA workers. Follow-up in newly identified individuals was through a “hub and spoke” pattern of 1 hub centre (Taluk hospital) catering to 9 spokes (primary health centre- PHC). The project covered 27 panchayats and 3 municipalities of Ernakulam district and a total population > 800000.
His other major area of interest is in the field of snakebite. Jaideep is the Lead PI on the ICMR- National task Force project looking at the incidence, mortality, morbidity, and socioeconomic burden of venomous snakebite in India, covering 34 districts in 13 states of India. Jaideep is a member of the ICMR National Task Force on snakebite and on the expert committee of BIRAC, DHR and ICMR on snakebite. Jaideep is also a member of the WHO expert committee on snakebite. Jaideep is the founder treasurer of the TSI-Toxinology Society of India, and the founder-secretary of the ISTSM- Indian Society for Toxinology and Snakebite Mitigation, with clinicians, basic scientists and herpetologists as members with the purpose of creating awareness on this preventable cause of death, improving treatment and setting up protocols, fostering research in this neglected subject especially in venomics and anti-venomics alongside engaging with governmental and non-governmental agencies on policy, protocols etc. Our collective efforts have borne fruit with several government agencies including ICMR, DHR, BIRAC and DBT taking up snakebite as a cause for concern with funding for research earmarked.
VIMUKTI was a campaign led by Jaideep, started at AIMS in 2014 for creating awareness on the ills related to tobacco and alcohol. Through sessions of ToTs (Training of Trainers), we used school children as trainers to spread the awareness campaign in their respective schools and communities throughout the district over a 1-year period, following which the project has now been taken up by the state, and is being conducted in all districts of Kerala.
Jaideep is also a Bernard J Lown scholar of the Harvard School of Public health and a fellow of the International Society for cardiovascular epidemiology and prevention (ISCEP).
He has close to 50 publications in indexed journals and is also the PI for the ICMR-DHR sponsored INTENT- ACCT (Advanced Centre for Clinical Trials) for AIMS, Kochi.
