Dr Arun Valsan completed his MBBS (2001 batch) from Calicut Medical College, Kerala. He thereafter served The Army Medical Corps with distinction for 10.5 years, attaining the rank of Major. He completed his MD (Med) from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was adjudged “ The Bedside Clinician in Medicine” and bagged the coveted “Lt Gen N Krishnan Memorial Gold Medal”. He also stood first and was awarded the “Dr Sam P Moses Gold Medal” for securing All India Gold Medal in DNB (Med) examinations in 2016. He hung up his uniform after a chequered Armed Forces career in 2018 and briefly worked in Department of Gastroenterology, Amrita Hospital before joining Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. He completed his DM in Hepatology and Transplantation in April 2021. He also secured the prestigious “Early Career Investigator award in Clinical & Translational Research” instituted by American Association for Study of Liver disease (AASLD) in 2021 and subsequently the INASL 2021 bursary.
He has co-authored multiple publications in journals, both national and international. He is also a reviewer for three journals and is a prolific researcher. He has written chapters in multiple books. His primary areas of interests are Transplantation, acute-on-chronic liver failure, portal hypertension and infections. His passion is in teaching and application of medical education technology.
He also has been selected for the prestigious University of Toronto Hepatology Transplant Fellowship slated to begin in Jan 2023.
