About Me

Dr. Janaki is among one of the leading breast imaging radiologists in India.
She did her basic medical training at BJ Medical College, Pune. She completed her DMRD training from the same college and subsequently completed her DNB in Radiodiagnosis. After a few initial years of exposure to General Rdiology, she started her 4 year onco-radiology experience in Kuwait Cancer Centre, Kuwait where she developed a special interest in breast imaging. Subsequently she completed her one year Clinical Fellowship in Breast Imaging from University of Toronto, Canada in 2012-13.
She joined Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, in 2013 as an Assistant Professor and was in charge of breast imaging section. The first digital mammography with tomosynthesis unit in Kerala was introduced in Amrita in September 2013 and till Dec 2019 more than 25,000 mammograms have been performed. In addition, more than 2000 image-guided core biopsies also have been performed till date.
The concept of individualised care for breast patients was introduced in Amrita that consists of a team of radiologist, surgeon and the pathologist who have advanced training in breast related symptoms.
Dr. Janaki has special interest in digital breast tomosynthesis, axillary lymph node imaging, image-guided breast biopsies and radio-pathological concordance. Dr. Janaki is the only breast radiologist in India who gives an official recommendation in her final procedure report after determining agreement with pathology findings for each and every interventional case. This diligent radiological-pathological concordance approach has led to a high 99% agreement with final pathological report in detecting cancers by core biopsy.
She has a strong interest in clinical research and is a post graduate guide for various MD students in breast related topics over the past 5 years. She is also instrumental in starting Breast Imaging Fellowship Program at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences since 2019. She was instrumental in holding the inaugural session of Amrita Breast Conclave: Unlocking Breast imaging in August 2019.
