The Department of Ophthalmology marked World Optometry Day with a vibrant celebration held at Changampuzha Park, Edappally. The event was led by Dr. Gopal S. Pillai, Head, Department of Ophthalmology, along with Dr. Manoj Prathapan and Dr. Suchitra. Optometrist Akhila Das welcomed the gathering.

The program was inaugurated by Manoj M. M., Sub-Inspector,  Elamakkara Police Station. A free eye check-up camp was organised for the public as part of the celebrations. A drawing competition was also conducted and nearly 70 students from various schools in Ernakulam district participated. The children were grouped by age, providing them a joyful space to explore and express their creativity.

Dr. Praveena Shyam, Pediatric Ophthalmologist, conducted an awareness session on the importance of early detection and treatment of eye conditions in children. Adding a cultural touch to the event, students of the Optometry Department performed a thought-provoking dance drama highlighting the ill effects of excessive screen use.

The celebrations concluded on a warm note as Senior Optometrist Deepa P. A. delivered the vote of thanks.
