Dr. Gopal S. Pillai is the Professor and Head of Department of Ophthalmology and Chief of Vitreo-Retinal Services at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He is one of the eminent vitreo-retinal surgeons in South India. He is the pioneer of 25-gauge suture-less retinal surgery in India.
Dr. Gopal S. Pillai did his graduation from Thrissur Medical College and further post graduation from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 2000. He became a Diplomate of National Board of Examinations in 2001. He was admitted as fellow of FICO in 2002 and FRCS in 2003. He has done his fellowship at Mc Master University Hamilton in 2009 and American Academy Certificate Course on AMD in 2011. He is a member of National Diabetic Macular Edema Task Group and Member of National Optometry Curriculum Development Task Force. He is a reviewer of two journals, the Journal of American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Tropical Medicine. He was the past editor of Kerala-Journal of Ophthalmology. To his credit, there are more than 30 international presentations, 300 national presentations, 8 international publications and 4 book chapters.
