
Amrita Hospital, Kochi is observing National Myopia Week 2025 from November 14 to 20, with a series of programs aimed at promoting awareness on childhood myopia. Organized by the Department of Ophthalmology, the initiative focuses on educating families about the rising prevalence of myopia, early screening, and healthy digital habits for children.
The week began with a walkathon, followed by awareness messages delivered by senior hospital leaders, including Dr. Beena K. V. (Additional Medical Superintendent), Dr. Ajoy Menon (Senior Medical Administrator), Dr.Gopal S. Pillai (Head of the Department, Ophthalmology), Dr. Anil Radhakrishnan (Consultant & Clinical Associate Professor), Dr. Manoj Prathapan (Additional Professor), and Dr. Praveena Shyam (Paediatric Ophthalmologist).
They highlighted the growing incidence of myopia in children, the importance of timely eye examination, and the impact of prolonged screen exposure on visual health.
As part of Myopia Week, free myopia screening is being conducted daily from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Ophthalmology Department, A-Block, Tower 1, Ground Floor, until November 20.
To further engage parents and children, a parent workshop and drawing competition will be held on November 22, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
