
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Amrita Hospital, Kochi, organized a Blood Donor Day Celebration and Appreciation Ceremony to honour voluntary blood donors and donor organizations for their invaluable service to society.
The programme, was inaugurated by Ernakulam District Collector G. Priyanka IAS, who also released the World Blood Donor Day message for the year. The event highlighted the critical importance of voluntary blood donation in saving lives and ensuring timely availability of safe blood for patients in need. Dr. Prathapan Nair, Chief Medical Administrator, Amrita Hospital, presided over the function. Dr. Veena Shenoy, Additional Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, welcomed the gathering.
Regular blood donors and representatives from voluntary blood donation organizations were felicitated during the ceremony in recognition of their sustained contribution to healthcare. Speakers emphasized the life-saving impact of blood donation and encouraged greater community participation in voluntary donation drives.
Dr. Beena K.V., Senior Medical Administrator; Dr. Ajoy Menon, Medical Administrator; and Prof. U. Krishnakumar, Dean, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi Campus, delivered felicitation addresses appreciating the donors’ humanitarian service.
As part of the programme, Dr. Linda John conducted an awareness session on blood donation, highlighting its safety, benefits, and necessity. Donors and representatives of voluntary organizations also shared their experiences, reflecting on their motivation and service to society.
The event also featured cultural performances, adding vibrancy to the occasion. Dr. Archana, Senior Resident, Department of Transfusion Medicine, delivered the vote of thanks.
The celebration concluded with the message “A Drop of Humanity – Donate Blood, Save a Life,” reinforcing the spirit of voluntary blood donation and community care.
