
The Department of Ophthalmology, Amrita Hospital, Kochi in collaboration with Jyothis Eye Care Society, celebrated the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight 2025 and World Sight Day, highlighting the importance of eye donation and vision restoration. The event brought together healthcare professionals, community partners, and students to honor contributions to eye care and raise awareness about corneal donation.
The celebration included the inauguration by the Chief Guest Mr. N. Vimal Kumar, Retd. Chief Petty Officer, Indian Navy (Aeronautical Engineer). Outgoing residents were honored for their dedication, and certificates were distributed to recognize their contributions to ophthalmology. Felicitations were given to music composer Mr. T S Radhakrishna and social worker Ms. Molly Koshi for their exemplary support to community initiatives.
A video exhibition showcased winners of various competitions, and awards were distributed to acknowledge exceptional commitment in community-based eye donation. Notably, the team performed over 50 corneo-scleral rim excisions, enabling corneal transplantation and restoring vision for numerous deserving patients. The event concluded with a dance drama by Optometry students, celebrating the spirit of service and raising awareness for the noble cause of eye donation.
