The Amrita Hospital, Kochi, in collaboration with Pfizer, successfully conducted a hybrid Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “ABCs of Anticoagulation – Building Expertise in Anticoagulation Management.” The event was held both onsite at IMA House, Athena Hall, Kochi, and online via the Medical Learning Hub (MLH) platform, drawing participation from clinicians across India.
The CME aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of anticoagulation therapy, covering Vitamin K Antagonists (VKAs), Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs), therapy monitoring, and management of bleeding complications. It also explored the use of anticoagulants in cardiovascular and neurological indications, emphasizing practical, evidence-based strategies for clinical decision-making.
The program was chaired by Dr. Rajesh Thachathodiyl, Professor and Head, Department of Cardiology, and featured an esteemed panel of our expert doctors including Dr. Navin Mathew, Dr. Praveen G. Pai, Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Dr. K. U. Natarajan, Dr. Vivek Nambiar, Dr. Hisham Ahamed, and Dr. Neeraj Siddharthan . The sessions covered a wide spectrum of topics, from Vitamin K Antagonists and DOACs overview to stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and management of anticoagulant-related bleeding.
The CME also included an interactive panel discussion on the management of high-risk patients, such as the elderly, those with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APLA). The session, moderated by senior faculty, featured real-world case scenarios that encouraged interactive dialogue and collaborative learning.
Through this initiative, Amrita Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to continuous professional development and excellence in patient care by bridging the gap between clinical research and real-world practice. The event provided a valuable platform for physicians, cardiologists, neurologists, hematologists, and postgraduate trainees to stay updated on the latest advancements in anticoagulation management.
The CME concluded with a vote of thanks to all the speakers, participants, and Pfizer, the knowledge partner, for their contribution in making the event a success.
