The Emergency Medicine Division of Amrita Hospital, Kochi, has received certification from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) for adherence to national standards in emergency care, patient safety, and clinical quality.

The certification follows a comprehensive assessment of emergency protocols, infrastructure, emergency preparedness, and patient-care systems. Amrita Hospital is among the few centres in India to obtain NABH accreditation specifically for emergency services.

The Emergency Department includes 30 dedicated beds and 40 surge beds to manage seasonal fluctuations and mass-casualty events. It is supported by round-the-clock laboratory and radiology services, point-of-care testing, and access to emergency operating theatres.

Amrita Hospital was the first institution in Kerala to establish a physician-led Emergency Medicine model. It also offers the state’s first NMC-recognised MD Emergency Medicine programme, launched in 2012, along with BSc and MSc Emergency Medical Technician programmes. The hospital additionally functions as an American Heart Association (AHA) International Training Center, offering BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification courses.
