Overview
The Department of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad is the dedicated Centre of Excellence in North-India giving comprehensive and dedicated services to critically sick children and children with respiratory issues.
This is a high-acuity, quaternary care unit with an institutional fellowship training program. All pediatric subspecialties are represented in PICU, and services provided include dialysis (CRRT), high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and iNO administration. Apart from critical medical problems, an active pediatric surgical sub-specialty presence is also here, including pediatric surgery, trauma, pediatric neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, solid organ transplantation (including liver, renal and multi-visceral), ENT, and orthopedics.
The department will also give support to children needing long term oxygen, tracheostomy and children needing long term invasive and noninvasive ventilator support.
The department will also evaluate children with respiratory problems and has the facilities of flexible bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, sweat chloride testing and sleep studies.
The clinical lead of the department is Dr. Maninder Dhaliwal, who brings his rich 12 years’ experience of establishing and running pediatric intensive care and respiratory services at Medanta, The Medicity hospital, Gurugram, after his PICU fellowship training from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi. He also holds a diploma in Allergy and Asthma, Christian Medical College, Vellore. The department also includes Dr Veena Raghunathan, who completed her training in pediatric critical care from Bai Jerbai Wadia Children’s hospital Mumbai and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi. Apart from general PICU work, she was the lead in PICU Transplant program at Medanta-The Medicity for 11 years. Both are accredited teachers of College of Pediatric Critical Care, India (IAP) and also IAP-ALS and PFCCS instructors.

- Septic shock, MODS, ARDS, severe pneumonia, status epilepticus, acute severe asthma
- Polytrauma, acute kidney injury, acute severe pancreatitis, acute liver failure
- Acute GI bleed, CNS infections, oncology emergencies, endocrine emergencies
- Persistent or recurrent wheezing or recurrent or chronic respiratory infections
- Cystic fibrosis and non CF bronchiectasis in children
- Children with complex asthma or difficult to manage asthma
- Conditions needing ventilator support in children
- Pulmonary tuberculosis
- Children with chronic respiratory failure for long term ventilator support
