 In observance of World Stroke Day, Amrita Hospital, Kochi, organised a series of initiatives to raise public awareness about stroke prevention and treatment. The event saw  participation from medical and nursing students, who helped convey key messages about stroke risks and the importance of early intervention.

To highlight stroke symptoms in an engaging manner, medical students performed a flash mob, while nursing students contributed with a comprehensive visual display on stroke awareness. Additionally, a public poster exhibition educated attendees on critical aspects of stroke prevention and recognition. 

The Department of Stroke Medicine also organised a Stroke Day Run which was inaugurated by Lions Club District Governor Rajan N. Namboothiri and Dr. Vivek Nambiar, Head, Department of Stroke Medicine, Amrita Hospital. Approximately 200 participants joined the run, which proceeded from the hospital to Edappally-Kunnumpuram Junction and back.

 Following the run, Dr. Vivek Nambiar led an awareness session, emphasizing the importance of maintaining healthy blood pressure levels to reduce stroke risk. 

"High blood pressure is a major contributor to stroke risk. By limiting salt intake, one can maintain healthy blood pressure levels," he noted. "Individuals with heart disease or valve disorders should take adequate precautions and never attempt to self medication. They should not stop the medicines without  doctor's advice. Stopping the medicines in Valvular Heart Disease can result in stroke," he added.
