In observance of World Snake Day, the Department of Emergency Medicine, Indian Society of Toxicology and ICMR- CCoE in snakebite management at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, organized an extensive Snake Envenomation Resuscitation program. This initiative brought together medical professionals, students, and staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in handling snakebite emergencies.

The program was divided into two main sessions. The first half consisted of a series of theoretical talks that delved into various critical aspects of snakebite management. Topics covered included the Epidemiology and Global Burden of Snakebite Envenomation, highlighting the widespread impact of snakebites worldwide. Additionally, there were discussions on Pre-Hospital Management & Snakes of Concern, which focused on the initial steps to be taken immediately following a snakebite and identifying the types of snakes that pose significant threats.

Further theoretical discussions explored Snakebite Recognition and Diagnosis, essential for promptly and accurately identifying snakebite cases. The session also covered Antivenom Therapy & Initial Management, providing insights into the administration and effectiveness of antivenom treatments. Advanced Snakebite Management was another key topic, addressing more complex medical procedures and interventions required in severe cases. The session concluded with Public Health Measures and Snakebite Prevention.

The afternoon session was dedicated to hands-on training, where participants were engaged in practical exercises. This included training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid Management in Snake Bite scenarios, ensuring that attendees could provide immediate and effective care. Advanced Airway Management techniques were also demonstrated, equipping participants with skills to manage severe respiratory distress in snakebite victims. The session further included the ASV Administration Protocol, guiding the proper administration of ant venom. A case study session on a syndromic approach provided real-world scenarios to practice and hone their diagnostic and treatment skills.

Around 40 participants, including doctors and students, attended this comprehensive program. The event was a significant step towards improving snakebite response and management, ultimately aiming to save lives and reduce the burden of snakebite envenomation in the region.
