Amrita Hospital in Kochi has successfully restored the narrowed windpipe of a Mumbai resident, giving him a new lease on life. The intricate procedure was carried out under the leadership of Dr. Tinku Joseph, Chief of Interventional Pulmonology at Amrita.

The 32-year-old man from Mumbai had been suffering from severe cough and breathing difficulties. On July 8th, he traveled to Amrita Hospital in Kochi seeking treatment. Comprehensive examinations revealed significant narrowing in various parts of his windpipe.

Dr. Tinku Joseph and his team of doctors employed rigid bronchoscopy to address the issue non-surgically. A 4-centimeter stent was placed in the windpipe using the rigid bronchoscope, effectively alleviating the young man's breathing difficulties. He has since fully regained his health and returned to Mumbai.

Dr. Tinku Joseph noted that such narrowing of the windpipe can occur in individuals who have had TB. He also mentioned that the stent placed to resolve this condition can be removed later if necessary.
