Amrita Hospital has launched a new comprehensive care initiative for patients suffering from lymphatic filariasis, with the program commencing in Cherthala. The hospital's Community Medicine and Plastic Surgery departments are spearheading this effort in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The program was officially inaugurated by Agriculture Minister P. Prasad at a ceremony held at KVM College of Nursing. The event was chaired by Anupama Pyarelal, Managing Director of KVM Trust, and featured a detailed presentation on the program's objectives by project leader Dr. K. N. Panicker.

Key participants in the launch included Dr. Teena Mary Joy, Dr. Sreelakshmi Mohandas, Dr. Aswathy S., and Dr. Paul T. Francis from the Community Medicine Department, alongside plastic surgery specialist Dr. Sam Thomas.

This program aims to address the social stigma associated with lymphatic filariasis and provide comprehensive care to help patients overcome the associated disabilities and reintegrate into society.
