Dr. Balu C Babu currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He joined the institute in 2016 after completing his master's with a gold medal from Government Medical College, Madurai. His academic qualifications include MBBS, MS Ortho, DNB, MRCS (Ed), and a Diploma in SICOT. He was also awarded the AO Trauma international fellowship in NSW, Australia, in 2022.
Dr. Babu's professional interests encompass Complex Trauma and Pelviacetabular injuries, Sports injuries, Foot and Ankle, as well as Adult Joint Reconstruction. He also has a keen interest in interventional pain management. He is an active member of several prestigious medical associations.
As an active academician, Dr. Babu has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching since 2016. He has received recognition and awards for his contributions, including winning the IOA national quiz. He has also been a team member of significant medical advancements, including India's first bilateral hand transplants and Asia's first bilateral arm transplant team and robotic joint replacements at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. He has also organized and participated in many academic activities, workshops, courses, and medical camps.
Dr. Babu's research work covers a range of topics in orthopedics, and he has authored chapters in notable orthopedic textbooks. He is also a journal reviewer. Additionally, he has been invited as faculty to various conferences and has given multiple talks and presentations at national and international platforms.
