Dr. Anand Kumar took his MBBS and MD [General Medicine] from Medical College, Trivandrum. He did his post-doctoral training in Neurology at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, an institute of national importance. After obtaining his DM in Neurology, he joined as faculty in Trivandrum Medical College.
After his short tenure in Medical College, in 1989, he joined the Ministry of Health, Sharjah as specialist Neurologist. He established the Department of Neurology at Al Qassimi and Kuwait Hospitals, Sharjah. He relocated to India in 1999 and joined the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. The Neurosciences Division at Amrita was started by him and now has the capability of a tertiary care referral center with ten formally trained neurologists.
He has several publications to his credit and has special interest in cognitive neurology, sleep medicine and bio-medical research. Dr. Anand has also worked in medical artificial intelligence and was member of a team that developed an expert system for epilepsy.
Currently, he is working in memory, autonomic function studies, dysarthria, patient monitoring, life style modification, space-mind medicine and epilepsy prediction.
