Amrita Hospital Faridabad has successfully done two pulmonary valve replacements using the Harmony Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve (TPV) system, making this hospital the first hospital in India as well as As Asia to use this advanced process. The surgery was performed on a 42 year old male and a 24 year old female.

These two suffered from heart disease called Tetrology of Falot at a very young age. To treat this condition, one of the heart valves (pulmonary valves) is required to remove obstruction in the valve. This leaks into valve that has been endured for years but ultimately, in most cases, valve needs a new valve to slowly prevent leakings and damage the heart muscles. Both patients faced a problem with valve leak. Following initial consultation at her local health facilities, she was sent to the cardiology department of Amrita Hospital Faridabad, where she received the guidance and surgery needed to overcome her challenges.

Dr. Head of Pediatric Cardiology Department of Amrita Hospital Faridabad S. "Despite being rare, Falot's tetrology affects almost one in 2,500 newborn babies every year, making it one of the more common congenital heart diseases." This birth defect causes sinosis or body blueness due to oxygen deficiency, which can be life threatening when severe. Correctional surgery usually resolves sinosis, enabling patients to live normal lives. However, decades later, a leak of pulmonary valve can lead to fatigue and breathing. " By replacing bad valve without the need of open-heart surgery, the Harmony Valve offers a new alternative.

This innovative strategy offers patients a non-traditional but successful treatment option, Which symbolizes a major advancement in heart care. Dr. Principal Consultant of Pediatric Cardiology Department of Amrita Hospital Faridabad Sushil Azad said, "Harmony TPV insertion procedure, which lasted two hours, included reaching the patient's vein and putting preloaded valve at the specific location, all of this without the requirement of open heart surgery. This surgery was smooth and simple. This minimal invasive approach ensures rapid recovery, patients are usually discharged within 2 days without injuries. '' Dr. Medical Director of Amrita Hospital Faridabad Sanjeev Singh said, "We are proud to be Asia's first hospital to perform this procedure at Amrita Hospital Faridabad. Our team is filled with joy and gratitude to be able to provide our patients with a minimally invasive solution that revolutionizes the treatment of congenital heart conditions.

This milestone affirms our dedication to providing innovative and effective treatment, ensuring our patients receive the best possible care. With this milestone, we hope to turn a new page in the book of heart care. ” Both patients are being checked regularly after the procedure.
