The Division of Cardiac Anaesthesiology, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, successfully organised the 3rd AMRITA Cardiac Anaesthesia Update on 12 July 2026. The Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme, themed "Perioperative Cardiac Critical Care," brought together nearly 80 cardiac anaesthesiologists and intensivists from across the country as faculty members and delegates to discuss the latest developments in cardiac critical care.
The programme was accredited by the Haryana Medical Council (HMC) with three credit hours. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Satish Khatter, President, Haryana Medical Council, along with Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, in the presence of senior faculty members from the Delhi-NCR region.
The academic programme was organised under the leadership of Dr. Dheeraj Arora, Organising Chairperson and Secretary, and Dr. Rahul Maria, Organising Co-Secretary.
The scientific sessions focused on recent advances and evidence-based practices in perioperative cardiac critical care for both adult and paediatric cardiac surgery patients. Experts delivered comprehensive lectures on antimicrobial stewardship, perioperative management of patients with multiple comorbidities, cardiac rhythm disorders, and nutritional support following cardiac surgery.
Advanced topics, including the postoperative management of heart and lung transplant recipients and patients requiring mechanical circulatory support devices, were also discussed, providing participants with insights into contemporary critical care practices.
A highlight of the programme was an engaging panel discussion on the "SHOCK Team Concept in a Cardiac Unit," moderated by Dr. Dheeraj Arora, which explored the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork in the timely management of cardiogenic shock.
An exclusive session dedicated to paediatric cardiac critical care addressed key topics such as antimicrobial therapy, management of single-ventricle physiology, the role of point-of-care ultrasound, and strategies to manage low cardiac output syndrome following paediatric cardiac surgery.
The update also featured a competitive clinical case presentation session, where clinicians presented interesting and challenging cases managed at Amrita Hospital. The best presentations were recognised with first and second prizes.
Each scientific session concluded with interactive discussions, allowing participants to clarify clinical concepts and exchange experiences with faculty members. Delegates also shared valuable feedback, reflecting the programme's high academic standards and practical relevance.
