Overview
Goonj is a detailed step-by-step surgical instruction course to learn the Posterior Tympanotomy approach to cochlear implant surgery. It focuses on discussing threadbare, all the detail the surgeon needs to perform this surgery safely and effectively. The course involves surgical dissection on Cadavers, an opportunity that is fast fading away in the current scheme of surgical training. Apart from surgery, we also discuss Audiology, Rehabilitation, and, importantly, Radiology, which is critical to a successful outcome.
Goonj is aimed at Senior ENT Surgeons with a special interest in Otology who are about to embark on a career in cochlear implant surgery. Junior colleagues can join in as Observers to update themselves on the subject.
Dr Shomeshwar Singh MS DLO FRCS MD, Adjunct Professor of Cochlear Implants at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (Faridabad Campus), is well known as a trainer/mentor surgeon in cochlear implants. He has trained Surgeons in many institutes and has conducted this course regularly since 2015.
