Amrita Hospital Faridabad recently hosted Goonj, a comprehensive 2.5-day hands-on surgical instruction course aimed at training Senior ENT Surgeons in the posterior tympanotomy approach to Cochlear Implant Surgery. The course offered in-depth training on performing cochlear implant surgeries with precision and confidence.
Led by Dr. Shomeshwar Singh (MS DLO FRCS MD), Adjunct Professor of Cochlear Implants, the course focused on providing advanced insights into the intricacies of cochlear implant surgery. He has performed one of the largest series of cochlear implant surgeries since 2002, has been conducting this instruction course since 2015, benefiting surgical teams in both government and private hospitals.
Participants, primarily senior ENT surgeons, were guided through the essential steps needed to carry out cochlear implant surgery safely. The course covered critical areas such as Audiology, Rehabilitation, and Radiology (CT and MRI scans). The hands-on portion of the course was held in Amrita Hospital’s state-of-the-art cadaver dissection facility, where participants practiced the techniques under close supervision.
In addition to cochlear implant surgery, the course also explored bone conduction implants, including clinical indications, science, and surgical techniques, allowing surgeons to gain experience in both fields.
Goonj courses are organized once every 3-4 months, with the next session planned for January 2025. Senior ENT surgeons interested in attending the next course can contact shomeshwar@fbd.amrita.edu for more information.
