Dr. Ginil Kumar Pooleri joined Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in May 2002 after finishing his Urology MCh training at Calicut Medical College. He visited, observed, and worked with eminent urologists and uro-oncologists inside India and outside. He was promoted to Professor in the Department of Urology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in 2008 which is the medical School of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. He started focussing in the field of Uro-Oncology since 2004 and helped the development of the subspecialty in the country. He got his basic training in robotic surgery at Atlanta and is leading one of the fastest-growing robotic Uro-Oncology program in the country at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He is the Director of the university accredited Uro-Oncology and Robotic fellowship program at the institute which is the second of that kind in the country. He is a recognized laparoscopic and robotic surgeon and was invited as an operating faculty at many workshops across the country. He has presented papers on retroperitoneosopic surgeries, complex Uro-oncology procedures, and robotic surgeries at the national and international levels and guided the research programs at the institute.


He presented the first extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy in the country at the USI conference at Calcutta in 2011, first extra peritoneal robotic adrenalectomy in the country at USICON Hyderabad in 2016. He described a novel technique for management of residual retroperitoneal lymph nodes after chemotherapy of testicular cancer using a robot which got published in the Journal of Robotic Urology, Journal of European Urology and the procedure video was selected as one of the best three videos at the European Robotic Urological Society’s annual conference at Lisbon, Portugal (2019). The procedure was well appreciated at World Congress of Endourology held in Dubai in 2019. He regularly conducts Uro-Oncology CME which is well attended by senior faculty and aspirants in the field. Also, he is recognized for his contribution as a teacher and is an invited faculty for Education programs conducted by the Urological Society of India at the national level.


He was a panel member in the guideline committee for bladder carcinoma by both Association of Southern Urology (2006) and Urological Society of India (2007). Currently he is the convenor of the guideline committee for testicular cancer for the urological society of India. He was selected as office bearer for various regional and national bodies He was a councillor Urological Society of India representing the south zone (2018-2020), Association of Southern Urologists representing the state of Kerala (2016-2018), Treasurer of Kerala Urological Society from 2021 till date. He was a member of the Board Of Education of the Urological Society of India (2016-2018) which is a recognition for his academic contribution to the field. He is the founder trustee and executive member of Robotic Urology Forum, Founder trustee and Founder treasurer of Society of Genitourinary Oncologists (SOGO) and Founder trustee of Academy of Urooncology.


He is an examiner for the National Board of Examinations (DNB examinations) and various universities across the country. He has published over 50 papers in national and international journals.
