It was 25 years ago when Amrita Hospitals introduced a dedicated specialized service for Gastrointestinal diseases, a first of its kind super-specialty treatment facility which was rare at that time. Over the last 2 decades, the department of GI surgery and Solid organ transplantation has reached high levels of excellence constantly striving to provide compassionate care and at the same time maintaining the outstanding standard of treatment for our patients.
As an extension of this same excellence, we are today, proud to announce the inauguration of our new out-patient department equipped with state of art facilities required to offer high standards of services to our patients.
The department offers services in the field of upper GI diseases (Oesophagus, stomach, and small bowel), colorectal diseases, hepato-pancreatic and biliary diseases including both benign and oncological conditions. The department offers and has extensive experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
Being pioneers in the field of solid organ transplantation, we have the experience of performing more than 1000 liver transplants (including adults and pediatric) alongside other solid organ transplants like small bowel transplant and simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplants.
The Amrita transplant team was the first center in India to perform robotic donor surgery for liver transplant and in addition has performed the largest number of robotic right lobe donor hepatectomies for transplantation world over.
The new GI surgery and Solid organ transplantation OPD is capable of housing 140 patients at a time. The new OPD block has various consultation services, facilities to perform minor procedures and has state of the art laboratory services. In addition, we offer weekly advanced clinics such as Liver clinic, Obesity clinics and Metabolic surgery clinics which include surgeons, specialized physicians, and support staff. The New block is conveniently connected with all other departments and diagnostic facilities.
