Qualification :
PhD (Life Sciences)

Dr. Zareena Hamza took her doctoral degree in Life Sciences in 2009 from Madras University.

She did her MSc in Human Genetics from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in the year 2001.

After postgraduation, she worked as a junior cytogeneticist in a leading infertility centre in Kerala for a period of one year.

Subsequently after being awarded JRF and SRF scholarship by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Dr. Zareena pursued her research at India Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR) Kalpakkam.

Her PhD work was focused on the effect of radon gas on human chromosomes. She introduced a novel and simple method to irradiate blood with radon gas. Her doctoral work had international acceptance.

Dr. Zareena commenced her services as Research Scientist in the Department of Human Cytogenetics, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in the year 2009.

Her specific areas of interest include prenatal diagnosis - to find out whether the fetus is affected with numerical or structural chromosomal abnormalities by examining the cells from amniotic fluid, chorionic villi or product of conception.

Dr. Zareena is well versed in techniques like Karyotyping and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridiation technique.
